Developing statistical thinking – Chris Niles
Chris Niles (Epsom Girls Grammar School) asked teachers if they had ever thought that teaching statistics and mathematics were not that similar, but haven’t clearly developed why? In his workshop, Chis identified key aspects of statistical thinking and explored differences between statistical and mathematical thinking. Additionally, he presented ideas on how some concepts in Mathematics could be modified to be more consistent with statistical thinking. The workshop presented the opportunity to engage with scholarly work in the area of Statistics Education that has practical implications for teaching Mathematics and Statistics to all levels.
