Classroom Activities for Teaching the NCEA Level 1 and 2 Statistical Enquiry Standards
Here are the ResearchGate slides (scroll down after clicking link) for the presentation Katrina McChesney (Curtin University, Bentley) gave at the 2016 ULearn conference.
Katrina provides an overview for teachers about how assessment standards could combine to help with managing assessment. This section of the presentation could be a useful resource to begin discussions within Mathematics and Statistics faculties around managing assessment pressures.
Katrina also provides practical classroom activities to develop students’ understanding and skills, and references several writing frames to support students formal writing. The activities and writing frames can be adapted and used with various year levels and Achievement Standards.
The three teaching resources Katrina uses are downloadable at the bottom of the power point presentation. The quickfire contexts could start discussions about situations that are suitable for setting up an experiment or should be treated as an observational study. The powerpoint is also available as a pdf.
