Using data cards

This activity leads on from the Posing investigative questions activity. The 36 data cards contain information about students that is both categorical and measured. Students will be given data cards with information from CensusAtSchool, NZ. They familiarise themselves with the variables and the questions asked, then use their posing investigative questions to sort the data and display it in a number of different ways.

In this activity students will be exploring the given data cards in response to investigative questions they have posed. In some instances students might organise the data cards and then pose their investigative question once they have found something of interest in their data cards (EDA- exploratory data analysis).

This activity will also allow students to develop the language of description for summary situations.
