Discussion and interaction in stats and maths classrooms

Dr Nic (Statistics Learning Centre) examines why student discussion helps learning, and techniques for encouraging discussion about mathematics and statistics. Traditional mathematics teaching did not involve a great deal of discussion, and consequently some teachers find this challenging. In this hands-on workshop Dr Nic explored strategies to improve classroom discussion to help students learn about statistics, and look at common pitfalls and how to deal with them.
