Changing Teaching Statistics: Real Data, Real Learning – Presentation with resources

Neville Davies from the UK Royal Statistical Society Centre was the keynote speaker for the 2013 Statistics Teachers Day jointly hosted by the Auckland Mathematics Society and the Department of Statistics (University of Auckland). Update 2024, this is worth an exploration there are gems of ideas here for all levels of schooling.

Neville used data provided by New Zealand teachers and their students using Google maps. New Zealand statistics students shine brightly in leading the Worldwide online Stats Quizz that was launched to celebrate 2013 as the International year of Statistics. Unfortunately, since Neville visited New Zealand the ExperimentsAtSchool site has been decommissioned. However, some of the lesson plans involving experiments and data files can be found at https://www.stem.org.uk/resources/collection/3834/experimentsatschool. These are targeted at Year 6-9 students.
