S Y1 Fabulous Feet – PPDAC cycle
This lesson explores one way for ākonga to explore practical ways to answer an investigative question about foot length. By doing this in a practical way they will begin to understand how the PPDAC cycle works to give us information about our world.
This activity explores the following key ideas:
- People and the environment are not data, but data can tell us things about people, their lives, and their environment.
- Motivated by an investigative question, collect data on a categorical variable with a limited number of categories (e.g. Do the students in our class have one foot longer than the other?)
- Creating data visualisations for data on a categorical variable.
- Data visualisations are representations that help reveal the stories about the individuals/objects under study contained in the data.
- Answering questions about a picture graph, including which category has the most or least items.
