Level 4, Level 5 Junior Statistics – an integrated programme (Year 9 and 10)

Liz Sneddon from Aorere College, presented at the 2013 joint Auckland Mathematics Association and Department of Statistics (University of Auckland) Statistics Teachers Day.

Liz presented an integrated programme for Junior statistics. The programme for years 9 and 10 prepares students for senior statistics using the PPDAC cycle at its core. Liz developed a series of write-on workbooks and post-tests to step students through the PPDAC cycle and the skills required. The workbooks (Bivariate, Multivariate and Time series) allow students to progress at their own pace and at the end of the workshop they complete a full investigation. This leads to a post-test on each of the three topics, where the mark schedule contains guidelines to determine which level students are at (Level 2-6). In the workbooks students are able to work from any level and they have been tested on all year 9 and 10 students at Aorere College.
